Telepathy has always been the subject of science fiction. Being able to communicate telepathically, we all have imagined at one point the possibility to send thoughts to one another using our brain and not our mouths.

Well Mary Lou Jepsen who is a former engineering executive at Facebook, Oculus, Google[x] (now called X) and Intel is saying this can become a reality in roughly 8 years through her company called Openwater.

She says that this will literally be a thinking cap with a goal to output thoughts to others as well as read other peoples thoughts. There is no prototype out yet but they are working on it.

"I figured out how to put basically the functionality of an M.R.I. machine — a multimillion-dollar M.R.I. machine — into a wearable in the form of a ski hat," says Mary Lou Jepson

Imagine the possibilities if this can become a reality. The implications on society. Communication would increase in speed. Sharing ideas with one another telepathically would be something of ease. Of course there are the other sides to it such as who would be able to wear it? How would you be able to filter out the thoughts that would want to be shared with one another. The main one would be if you don't want your thoughts being read at all. These are some huge hurdles to overcome if this could become a reality.

I think it would be a big leap into consciousness and better understanding it. However it might create a big impact on our everyday lives.
