Sea spiders use their guts as hearts!
New research shows not only do sea spiders use their legs as gills, but they have a freakier characteristic which is using their guts as a way to pump blood through their bodies circulatory system.
Sea spiders whom belong to the class of anthropods known as pantapoda (all Legs) are mostly found in the polar regions and can survive at a depth up to 6500 Meters below sea level. They do have a heart which does pump blood as well but doesn't do a great job at at. The gut however which is oddly shaped like a hand is more responsible for spreading the flow of blood. As the abdomen contracts to move food along it pushes the digestive fluids down its legs and back up again which in turn forces blood in each direction.
Oh yeah almost forgot their reproductive organs are located on their legs.
